Iceland Cabinet Minister Visits The 2019 Deuce

Lilja D. Alfreðsdóttir, Iceland’s Minister of Education, Science, and Culture

Lilja D. Alfreðsdóttir, Iceland’s minister of education, science, and culture, will join us on August 3 for the 120th annual Deuce of August celebration. She will be the keynote speaker at the Saturday afternoon heritage program. She has been a member of Althingi (the national parliament) for the Reykjavík South Constituency since 2016 and has previously served as the minister for foreign affairs and external trade from 2016-2017 and as minister of education, science, and culture since November 2017. Ms. Alfreðsdóttir holds a master’s degree in international economic policy from Columbia University and received a Fulbright grant during her studies. She holds an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Iceland. She also studied at the University of Minnesota and Ewha university in Seoul. Ms. Alfredsdottir has written numerous articles on economic and educational affairs in Icelandic papers and international journals. In addition, ms. Alfredsdottir has held presentations on economic affairs in the United States and Europe.
