Statement From Icelandic Communities Association

Greetings to all of our friends and supporters of the Icelandic Communities Association.

I am pleased to report that the 121st annual Deuce of August Icelandic Celebration will take place, but in the face of today’s pandemic, it will be modified to do everything we can to keep everyone as safe as possible.

We will have the Saturday morning parade and the Saturday afternoon heritage program. The parade will be conducted as in previous years, with the only likely exception being we will ask people to not throw candy. The parade will be broadcast live on KXPO 1340 AM radio.

The heritage program will be on the big screen in the mountain community center, and on a webinar for people to enjoy from wherever they might be. Limited seating will be available at MCC. The Mountain/Thingvalla Fire Department is tentatively planning to stage the Saturday night street dance.

A full schedule of events will be posted on the “august the deuce” Facebook page and on our website at http://thedeuce.org/ please be aware that some events could be subject to cancellation or modification.

While we will do everything we can to provide as safe an environment as possible, everyone needs to make their own decisions on whether to attend any of the events during the weekend. If you or someone close to you is vulnerable, or if, for whatever reason, you are worried about your health, you should stay home this year and resolve to gear up for the celebration next year when we will hopefully be able to get back to normal.

We hope to see you at the deuce, but our first and foremost wish is that we all stay safe and enjoy good health and happiness!
